A SET OF FOUR WILLIAM III WALNUT SIDE CHAIRS LATE 17TH OR EARLY 18TH CENTURY On bobbin and block turned supports and feet joined by baluster turned X-stretchers, each with a red damask loose seat cover, together with two later chairs, each 113cm high, 51cm wide, 50cm deep (6) Provenance: Formerly the Messel family collection in the Great Hall at Nymans Removed to Holmstead Manor in 1947 after the disastrous fire and thence by descent to Oliver Messel Purchased from Oliver Messel by Frederick and Phyllis Baden Watkins for Flaxley Abbey, Gloucestershire Condition Report: As catalogued four of these chairs are period, and two are later made to match, the later chairs have 'pink' upholstery compared to the red of the earlier chairs, the upholstery overall with marks, rips, tears and will benefit from replacement overall All with marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use Old splits and cracks, some chips and losses, Signs of woodworm overall, old holes, losses, some replacements and signs of filler to correct issues apparent due to this damage Wobble and looseness to the joints Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition Condition Report Disclaimer
