A RARE RUSSIAN (TULA) SMALL-SWORD WITH CHISELLED IRON HILT ENCRUSTED IN SILVER AND IN THREE COLOURS OF GOLD circa 1770-80 With slender short blade etched and gilt on both sides at the forte (patches of pitting), iron hilt chiselled throughout with small pierced designs of scrollwork and expanded flower-heads, the latter alternately picked-out in gold and formed as gold-encrusted medallions, incorporating pendant trophies-of-arms finely encrusted in gold on the pommel and on both faces of the double shell, each within a silver guilloche enclosure, and the shell-guard and pommel framed by an elaborate running bead pattern also in gold and silver (the pommel and knuckle-guard each with small patches of pitting, the grip binding loose). 25¼ i n (64.2cm) blade
