A RARE PAINTED GREY POTTERY FIGURE OF A HORSE AND SEPARATE RIDER EARLY TANG DYNASTY, 7TH CENTURY BC The horse heavily potted and probably on a metal armature, well modeled standing foursquare on a rectangular base, with hogged mane and docked tail, painted a pale orangy brown, the separate foreign rider with head tilted to one side, his left hand positioned to hold reins and right arm bent across the torso, wearing a cloth cap and a riding robe secured by a belt hung with a pouch on one side, seated atop a crisply molded saddle set on a long saddle cloth, traces of white pigment 20 7/8 in. (53 cm.) high
