A RARE MEISSEN HAUSMALER TEAPOT AND COVER, circa 1725, decorated in Augsburg, the bulbous body with a curved spout with a gilt mask terminal and loop handle, both sides decorated with chinoiserie vignettes depicting figures around tables, beneath large swags, the rims with gilt borders, the domed cover similarly decorated with figures and trees, 13.5cm high (2) PROVENANCE: Private German collection. FOOTNOTES: The scene on one side of this teapot is based upon an engraving by Martin Engelbrecht Nobilissimus Dominus Kiakouli in Villa sua, from the series Habitus et mores Sinsnsium, published in Augsburg in 1719; see M. Cassidy-Geiger, ‘Graphic Sources for Meissen Porcelain: Origins of the Print Collection in the Meissen Archives’, Metropolitan Museum Journal 31 (1996), fig.10. A sketch of this scene can be found on plate 28 of the Schulz Codex. A teapot and cover of similar form was sold by Bonhams, 2 December 2015, .
