Photographed by the Ordnance Survey Office Author: Kazumasa, Ogawa Place Published: Tokyo Publisher: Hakubundo Date Published: [1895] Description: [125] leaves. Collotype illustrations throughout. 30x44 cm (11¾17¼"), floral printed cloth cover with tan cloth title label, bound on right with string, all edges gilt. Book of 100 collotypes mostly taken in Korea and Manchuria during the Sino-Japanese War of 1895. The compiler, Ogawa Kazumasa, was one of the leading figures in bringing photography to both commercial and artistic prominence in Japan at the end of the 19th century. Condition: Cloth soiled and rubbed, spine cloth and binding ribbon frayed; first few pages with creasing; light foxing, soiling, toning throughout; good.
