A Paris Porcelain Coffee Set for Two Presented By The French Government To Joseph Chamberlain For His Contribution To The 'Entente Cordiale', April 1904, comprising: a twin handled tray, a coffee pot and cover, a sugar basin and cover, a cream jug, two cups and two saucers, painted with titled scenes from Napoleon's campaigns, some indistinctly signed or initialled 'FA', on a gilt and red ground, the coffee pot 27cm high, the tray 48.5cm long; in its leather covered fitted box gilt stamped N within wreath, blue crossed arrows marks, 64cm wide Chamberlain (1836-1914) was an influential British politician and statesman. He was influential in the negotiations leading to the signing of the Entente Cordiale on 8th April 1904. A photocopy of a letter from Henry Sandon dated 27th January 2000 related to the present lot and a photocopy of a typed note recording a statement of provenance by Mrs Maxwell, grand daughter of Chamberlain, included in the lot.
