A PAIR OF VERY RARE BAMBOO-VENEERED WOOD ARMCHAIRS, MEIGUIYI QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY Each bamboo-veneered chair with a backsplat terminating in a scrolled headrest richly carved with a design of arching interlocked confronted dragons, above an orange bamboo skin-veneered squared motif of confronted archaistic phoenix and interlocking squared scrolls centering on a jade bi -disc, the openwork back and sides with an inner border of incised orange bamboo veneer, the red lacquer seat supported on square-section legs joined by veneered aprons of squared scroll, the striated black and brown bamboo surface forming a striking contrast with the orange-brown bamboo skin 36 3/4 in.
