A PAIR OF GEORGE III PAINTED, SATINWOOD AND PARCEL-GILT SECRETAIRE BOOKCASES CIRCA 1790, ATTRIBUTED TO GEORGE BROOKSHAW Each upper section with arched cresting centering a half-fan medallion and with acanthus leaf cornice above a pair of brass Gothic-glazed doors enclosing three ribbon-tied reed-fronted shelves flanked by panels of climbing flowers, the base with bowed central section above a hinged frieze drawer decorated with floral swags enclosing a writing surface, flanked by painted ovals with landscapes depicting a villa (Whitton Park), a country house (Shardeloes) or two rural scenes, divided by reeded panels, above a central door or with a ribbon-suspended oval of Cupid disarmed by Euphrosyne or Cupid distressed by nymphs within an anthemion border, flanked doors painted with ribbon-tied roses, above a laurel apron and on turned feet (decoration refreshed, restoration to cornice)- 88in.(224cm.) high, 48¾in.(124cm.) wide, 17¼in.(44cm.) deep (2)
