Beschreibung:

The revolving top with a replaced tooled red leather inset writing surface above four real and four alternate dummy frieze drawers with ebonised turned handles and the ivory roundels labelled 'P', 'W', 'R', and 'S', the turned pillar on quadruple scrolled and moulded legs ending in brass cap castors, one drawer bearing the manuscript paper label 'This Table was the property of William Thomas B. Ashley who died at his residence 3 Church Row Stepney on 15th October 1875. It was sold by Auction by Sotheby Wilkinson & Hodge 13 Wellington Street Strand WC on Tuesday 21st December 1875. Described in Sale Catalogue as Lot 428. A Spanish mahogany revolving Library Table, on pillar and claw with 4 drawers. Bought by Thomas Wrake Ratcliff on his death it became the property of his son Sidney George Ratcliff who some years afterwards gave it to his cousin Frederick William Maddocks who, shortly before his death gave it to his brother Sydney Maddocks who now writes this account' 107cm in diameter, 76cm high (42in in diameter, 29.5in high).
