A late 19th / early 20th century Anglo – Indian unmarked silver footed bowl, Madras circa 1900 Raj period. Of rounded circular form upon a pedestal foot. The body with embossed decoration of eleven circular vignettes each with scenes of domestic Indian life, such as grinding grain in a mortar, carrying bottles in a yoke, an ox and cart, women head carrying water bottles, hair washing, a snake charmer, metal smith working on an anvil, an acrobatics act, thrashing fabrics clean, head carrying food and a peacock, throwing earthen ware vessels. All interspersed with stylised foliate forms, below a border of lunettes. The foot with a band of chased stylised acanthus leaves. Double skinned interior. Height – 14.3 cm / 5.6 inches Diameter – 18.2 cm / 7.1 inches Weight – 701 grams / 22.54 ozt
