A LARGE FRENCH OR FLEMISH CARVED OAK COMMODE POSSIBLY LIEGE, MID 18TH CENTURY 95.5cm high, 172cm wide, 70cm deep Condition Report: There are some marks, scratches, chips, splits, abrasions consistent with age and use. Overall the patina is matt with crackelure and some scratching to some dark staining. The top has been cleaned at some stage with some pale flecks to some areas of the the grain of the timber, there are ring marks and a chip to the central front area. There are cracks and some repairs, for example to the carved outswept scroll feet and to the lower right drawer front. Lacking some carved mouldings to the sides of the back feet. There are are three long drawers that are shaped as the scroll carved borders. The top drawer does not run smoothly tilting up when attempting to pull it out as if there are no runners. There is a cupboard door to each side, shaped as the scroll carved border and enclosing shelves. The right hand door is locked, there is no key. The handles and escutcheons are later, there is evidence of previous handle holes and there are some marks where the handle fixings have scratched as they have rotated. The lower right drawer handle has two sections detached, they are in the drawer. There are no keys for the drawers or doors, (as aforementioned other than the right hand door) all the locks are open. Some splits to the drawer linings. Some movement to the lower drawer front so that when in place it does not sit quite flush.
