A LARGE COLLECTION OF 19TH AND 20TH CENTURY PORTRAIT AND OTHER PLAQUES comprising --ÉTIENNE-HIPPOLYTE MAINDRON (FRENCH, 1801-1884): PORTRAIT OF A. J. BARROIS cast bronze medallic plaquette, bust in very high relief left, his name behind in script, "A. J. Barrois", signed below truncation, ‘H. MAINDRON’, 173mm, without foundry mark, dark patination -GEORGE WASHINGTON, A PORTRAIT MEDALLION, TOGETHER WITH FIVE FURTHER comprising: George Washington, a 19th century circular cast iron portrait medallion, his head and shoulders to right, name below, 155mm.; OLIVER CROMWELL (1599-1658), an oval cast iron plaquette of, after Roubilliac (see lot P016 ), armoured bust to right and shoulder-length hair 129 x 100mm., GEORGE III AND QUEEN CHARLOTTE, cast iron medallic ornament, conjoined busts right, he in armour and laureate, 110mm. h & w; NAPOLEON I (1769- 1821), cast bronze medallic portrait, uniformed bust right, in high relief, 100mm., perhaps a trial as numeral “1” in field before bust; GEORGE IV, silhouetted gilt-brass portrait, bust right in Coronation robes, 95 x 75mm. (discoloured) (5) - AFTER HANS JAMNITZER (GERMAN, 1539–1603): PLAQUETTE, TOGETHER WITH FOUR FURTHER comprising: 1. AFTER HANS JAMNITZER (GERMAN, 1539–1603), 18th /19th century reworking, THE JUDGEMENT OF SOLOMON, circular bronze plaquette, after a 16th century original from the workshop of Hans Jamnitzer circa 1575; King Solomon seated in judgement with the two women pleading in the foreground, while the executioner holds the baby by the feet, sword at the ready, landscape of buildings, a church and hills and towns beyond, 140mm. 2. AFTER HANS JACOB BAYR (GERMAN, AUGSBURG, 1574-1628), the style of, ATHENA GIVES NAMES TO THE ARTS, two decorative 19th century circular bronzed electrotype copies of an earlier plaquette, Athena leads the personification of Painting past an altar and into the circle of Arts and Sciences, represented by seven muses amidst a classical townscape, 150mm, slightly convex flans, one silvered, one mounted in rectangular dark wood frame, (2) 3. ANGLO-GERMAN BRONZED ELECTROTYPE, a marriage scene, early 18th century style, 19th century, possibly a design for a box lid, 140mm x 100mm. 4. 19TH CENTURY FRENCH: PORTRAIT OF VIANNEY', a small oval electrotype with bronzed patination, depicting Vianney at prayer, inscribed 'JN. MIE. BTE. VIANNEY CURE D'ARS MORT LE A AOUT 1859', in integral frame, 112mm high -JOHN HENNING (SCOTTISH, 1771-1851): A PAIR OF PLASTER PLAQUES AFTER RAPHAEL “PAUL PREACHING AT ATHENS – Proclaims the True God the Creator of Heaven & Earth”, signed: HENNING .
