A gray schist figure of Buddha Gandhara, 2nd/3rd century Seated in dhyanasana with his hands in dharmachakramudra , clad in a voluminous sanghati draped over both shoulders, the cascading folds elegantly gathered below the ankles, the face with finely carved eyes below gently arching brows, centered by a raised urna and flanked by pendulous earlobes, the hair in fine locks pulled over the ushnisha 32¾ in. (83.2 cm.) high
