A GERMAN VARI-COLOUR GOLD SNUFF-BOX HANAU, CIRCA 1790, STRUCK WITH THE HANAU TOWN MARK FOR 18 CARAT GOLD AND A MARK RESEMBLING THE PARISIAN CHARGE MARK OF JULIEN ALATERRE 1768-1774 oval box, the cover, sides and base set with panels of wave-pattern engine-turning stamped at intervals with pellets, within sablé bead and flowerhead outer borders, the side pilasters chased with vari-colour gold floral vases 3 1/8 in.
