A German ormolu and porcelain-mounted ebonised bureau 'a gradin' Last quarter 19th Century The upper section surmounted by an open arched pediment centered with the Papal coat of arms, above a central door decorated with a fielded panel showing a landscape with the Infant Jesus with Saint Joseph, with a further Crucifix porcelain plaque to the inside of the cupboard, flanked to either side by a pair of flowered bulbous columns and by two drawers decorated with further plaques showing the Virgin Mary and the symbols of the four Evangelists, the lower section with a reading slope flanked by floral porcelain candle arms, above a frieze fitted with a drawer and decorated to the angles with smaller plaques showing the apostles, on two floral porcelain columns with applied laurel wreaths and oak leaves, on a concave-fronted plinth, the central cupboard with handwritten label reading Geschenk von Papst Leo XIII zum Regierung 25 J. Jubiläum an König Karl und Königin Olga von Württemberg 1889 ('Present from Pope Leo XIII to King Karl und Queen Olga of Württemberg on the occasion of 25th anniversary of reign 1889'), the top left-hand drawer with circular stamp stencilled BRNO PAMATK ?U (Bratislava, Pamatk Street?), the carcass with a label printed P.E & O. v. W gemeinschaftlich No. and inscribed in ink 16 , the porcelain German - Meissen and Capo di Monte style 33¼ in. (84.5 cm.) wide; 57 3/8 in. (145.8 cm.) high; 21 5/8 in. (55.3 cm.) deep
