A George III burr yew and crossbanded cylinder bureau, circa 1790, the top drawer pulling out and the roll top revolving to reveal an arrangement of short drawers and pigeon holes above a leather inset ratchet adjustable writing slope, 102cm high, 78cm wide, 47cm deep For a related example of cylinder bureau in burr yew see, Christie's, New York, 14th July 2004, The House Sale, Lot 838 ($9,560). A similar example of bureau was held in the Norman Adams Collection, see Christopher Claxton Stevens and Stewart Whittington, 18th Century English Furniture, The Norman Adams Collection, Antique Collectors Club, 1983, pages 128 & 129. Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old splits and chips. Some filler applied to splits at sides. The front edge of the fitted drawer with two sections of veneer lacking. Tooled leather inset panel is a replacement. The slide adjacent to the lock plate with two deep grooves from where the hasp has worn the timber. Some old ink marks/spots to interior. Handles are well matched old replacements. some sections of veneer re-stuck. Key present and operates both locks. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition.
