A FRENCH ORMOLU-MOUNTED KINGWOOD AND MARQUETRY BUREAU A CYLINDRE, in the manner of Riesener, in the Transitional style, with a rectangular liver-coloured top with pierced three-quarter brass gallery, the cylinder front centred by a figure of Athene and with marquetry panels emblematic of Astronomy and Mathematics, opening to reveal four small drawers and six pigeon-holes, with a pull-out leather-lined writing surface, the sides with naval trophies, the back centred by a seated female figure with a musical cherub and bacchic mask below, flanked by marquetry panels emblematic of Fire and Water, the frieze fitted with four drawers, on square-shaped tapering legs headed by foliate clasps, with pierced foliate sabots (restorations) 55in.
