A FRENCH GILT-BRONZE AND ONYX GARNITURE, comprising a centrepiece and a pair of candelabra, the centrepiece cast from a model by Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, surmounted by a group of Hebe and Jupiter's Eagle, the youthful goddess lightly draped and with elaborate hairstyle, seated on the eagle and pouring nectar from a pitcher into the dish from which the eagle drinks, on a naturalistic cloud base, signed CARRIER. 1868 , the bow-fronted rectangular base centred by the dial with Roman numerals, the twin-train movement striking on a bell, the reverse stamped in an oval CHARPENTIER Ft DE BRONZES 399 A PARIS and with the further mark stamped in a roundel JAPY FRERES Cie EXPO 1886 GDE MED. D'HONN. and the impressed number 8 , between inswept volute brackets with rope-twist border and stepped ribbon-tied reed-moulded base; the candelabra each of a classically draped maiden bearing an antique-decorated amphora, on conforming base,late 19th Century the centrepiece: 18¼in.
