Circa 1870 The corniche case with glazed upper tier with an automaton bird moving up and down and sideways whilst singing on the hour, the white enamel Roman dial (restored) with blued steel moon hands and with subsidiary alarm ring, inscribed BREVET D'INVENTION S.G.D.C. , the twin barrel movement with gilt platform to lever escapement with bimetallic balance, strike/repeat/alarm on bell via two hammers to the back plate with stamp for JAPY FRÈRES and number 526 , with further numbers to front plate and case, with link to further barrel and bellows in the base for the singing bird (lacking stop/start lever) 10 1/8in.
