A fine Ottoman Qur'an, by the scribe Ozman Zadeh Mustafa bin Muhammad, copied on only 17 leaves, in miniature Arabic script, illuminated manuscript on paper [Ottoman Turkey (Constantinople), dated 1157 AH (1744 AD)] complete, 17 leaves (plus a flyleaf at each end), collation: i1 (singleton to complete text), ii6, iii2, iv6, v2, opening 2 pages with elaborately gilt and decorated borders around the textblocks, each with 7 lines gold naskh, headings in white thuluth against gold banners, remaining leaves single column, around 112 lines gold gubari per page, 7 ornamental gilt roundels decorating the outer borders of each leaf, heightened in green, red and black, text blocks ruled in black and gold spiraling pattern, with a further ruling in red on the outer edge of this, green marbled paper pastedowns and flyleaves, 220 by 150 mm.; contemporary limp calf covers, ruled in tooled gilt decorations with central gilt stamped medallions to covers, skillfully rebacked, edges a little scuffed A unique and exceptionally preserved Qur'an, showcasing the supreme skill and scribal genius in miniature Qur'an production in eighteenth century Ottoman Turkey, at the height of their artistic and calligraphic renaissance.
