SMITH, DUKE ST. LINCOLNS INN FIELD, LONDON, FECIT. ; the plateau circular, on conforming feet, with egg and dart border, with an openwork border of thistles and foliage, the field engraved with a coat-of-arms and motto, with a wood backplate, marked on border with maker's mark and date mark only The plateau 22 in. (4,147 gr.) weight of plateau The arms are those of Ramsay with a martlet for difference for John Ramsay, 4th son of George, 8th Earl of Dalhousie, born in 1775. A Lieutenant-General, he served on the general staff in India. He married in 1800, Mary, the daughter of Philip Delisle of Calcutta, and died in 1842. (2)
