A collection of English and Continental charters, in Latin, French and Flemish, on vellum and paper [thirteenth to sixteenth century] twenty-six documents, including (a) two quitclaims on vellum, each approximately 180mm. by 70mm., of land owned by Hugo, filius Simonis de Rodes, 10 and 9 lines in brown ink in a fine and legible early gothic cursive hand, both with seal tags attached (one recovered from an earlier document), England, c.1290; (b) grantor's copy of a land-transfer record of estates at Tilstock, Shropshire, from Alan le Kent to Roger, filius Cadugan, on vellum, 192mm. by 148mm., 17 lines, seal tags attached, England (Shrops.), c.1290; (c) grant by William de Saperton of Ticknall, Derbyshire to William de Staunton, knight, of all his lands, on vellum, 290mm. by 110mm., 10 lines, England (probably Ticknall), 9 January 1332; (d) grant by Sir William Babyngton and associates of land in Barwell (near Hinkley, Leicestershire) to John Howes and his wife Matilda, 250mm. by 165mm., 15 lines, 4 seal tags (1 with attached red wax seal, tags here from a reused Middle English text, with "men to persue your laws other w..." visible), England (Barwell), 1 October 1427; (e) order from Aimeri du Cros, seneschal of King Charles IV of France, to the bailiff of Maurens in the Dordogne to come with armed men and horses to Lauzerte, south-west of Cahors, on paper, 235mm. by 100mm., 9 lines in light brown ink in a cursive hand, remains of seal on verso, other marks from modern owners (one strongly suggesting that this is ex Fuller collection: cf. A. Mace, Handlist of Documents in the Fuller Collection in the University of London Library, 1977), Mont de Domme, Dordogne, dated 25 February 1324; (f) letter of Michiel Piot, clerk to Richard de Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick and Governor of France and Normandy, certifying that two days previous a messenger named Guillaume le Grant presented the earl with some sealed letters and a wooden box containing confidential matters, 290mm. by 80mm., 6 lines in black ink, Rouen, 19 January 1438; (g) receipt from Jehan Destampes, servant of Jean d'Orléans, comte d'Angoulême, for 177 'livres tournois' received from the comte's treasurer, to be used to partly pay the 9000 écus demanded by the countess of Somerset for the comte's ransom (cf. G. Dupont-Ferrier in Revue Historique 62, 1896, pp.42-76), 315mm. by 90mm., 8 lines, Angoulême, 1 September 1447; (h) letter from the town authorities of Bruges to the authorities of Sluis, regarding a cloth-makers' dispute over the manufacturing of certain types of cloth there, on vellum, 305mm. by 228mm., 22 lines in Flemish, not recorded in Gaillard, Inventaire des archives de la ville de Bruges, 1871-, Bruges, June 1391; (i) order of Emperor Maximilian I, regarding Nicholas Wolfsbach and property in Nuremberg, on vellum, 370mm. by 230mm., 21 lines, ornamental cadels to first line, two seal tags with remnants of imperial seals attached, Germany or Austria ('Veldkirch', perhaps Feldkirch, near St.Gallen), 1 July 1503; plus another seven English documents of the fourteenth and fifteenth century, all with seals or seal-tags attached, one ex Phillipps 40073, and a fragment of a document of the fifteenth century regarding a payment to 'Johanna Worsop' of London; and eight Continental documents of the fourteenth to fifteenth century, mentioning people and properties in Brittany, Paris, Antwerp, Bertem near Leuven, and Ypres, all (except the London fragment and 2 Continental charters) in good condition
