A CIVIL WAR PRESENTATION US MODEL 1850 FOOT OFFICER'S SWORD by Collins & Co. 1862, embellished by Tiffany & Co., New York Presented to/Major A.B. Mott/U.S. Vol./New York 1862 The slightly curved double fullered blade (staining overall) etched with two extensive panels of scrolls surrounding US and panoply of arms. Etched panel at ricasso bears the company name of Tiffany & Co. in a flowing riband, stamped Collins & Co. Hartford, Conn. 1861 . Twisted brass wire wrapped ray-skin bound grip. The gilt brass hilt with US in pierced scrolling floral surround. Phygian helmut pommel cap hand-engraved with the American Shield. Steel scabbard (some dents, lacking original finish, and throat piece) bearing its three original gilt (traces remain) brass mounts, each hand engraved. The first engraved US within a tight scroll ground and bearing the shield form panel inscribed Presented to/Major A.B. Mott U.S. Vol./New York 1862 on the interior side. The chape engraved extensively with scrolls and geometric patterns, embellished with an American Shield and a finely engraved American Eagle and Shield. 32 inch blade. Presented with extensive documents pertaining to Alexander B. Mott, Surgeon, U.S. Volunteers.
