A CHARLES II SILVER-MOUNTED EBONY-VENEERED EIGHT-DAY TIMEPIECE TABLE CLOCK WITH PULL QUARTER REPEAT AND ALARM JOSEPH KNIBB LONDON, CIRCA 1685, PARTIALLY RE-MOUNTED CASE: with faceted ribbon-tied silvered handle to cushion-moulded top, the sides with foliate-and-mask silver mounted frets above glazed panels, the front door with similar fret and elongated repoussé S-scroll silver escutcheons to each side, above stepped and moulded plinth base, the interior rear door frame with ivorine plaque of Percy Webster DIAL: the 6 inch square brass dial with foliate and scroll silver spandrels, silvered chapter ring with trident half hour markers, matted centre with alarm disc, alarm stop lever above I and pierced blued steel hands, signed 'Joseph Knibb Londini fecit' MOVEMENT: with four latched vase-turned pillars, single gut fusee, verge and crown wheel escapement, pull quarter repeat and alarm to two bells, the foliate engraved back plate signed 'Joseph Knibb Londini fecit'; with case key 12 5/8 in.
