Official Souvenir Book Author: Reid, A.M., USGA President Place: Wilmette, IL Publisher: USGA / Westmoreland Country Club Date: 1938 Description: 64 pp. Illustrated from photographs, drawings, ads (including one of Shirley Temple promoting Quaker Puffed Wheat) and a double-page course map. Also, list of play progress (still left blank). 12x9, original color pictorial saddle stitched wrappers. Inscribed presentation copy, signed on the title page: “This book belongs to Maureen Orcutt [of]…New Jersey, Sept. 18, [19]38. Presented by Mrs. W.P. Sullivan, Ashland, Virginia.” Maureen Orcutt reached prominence as one of the world's best amateur female golfers long before joining The New York Times in 1937, when she became only the second female sports reporter at the paper. Mrs. Willard P. Sullivan was one of ten on the 1938 USGA Women’s Committee, representing Ashland, Virginia (as stated and pictured on page 4). Various articles on Glenna Collett; Maureen Orcutt Crews with Pam Barton (pictured on page 28) the runner-up and winner of the 1936 Women’s Amateur (respectively); Mrs. Julius A. Page, Jr. (1937 Amateur winner), etc. High-quality images for each of 18 holes. Lot Amendments Condition: Rubbing to covers, darkening to rear, small creases, staples a bit rusty with top one separating from covers; internally clean, else very good or better. Scarce.
