2 3/4-inch Pocket Globe After Herman Moll with cartouche A Correct GLOBE with the new Discoveries, made up of twelve engraved hand-colored gores and two polar calottes, with Equinoctial Line divided by degrees 0-180-0 and hours, the Ecliptic by days, the meridian passing West of Greenwich, the continents shaded and outlined in pink, green and yellow, showing Cook's tracks, a windrose in the Indian Sea, the Antarctic with no land shown, Australia labeled New Holland, Africa showing Negroland, Tartaria and Mogul India labeled, North America, with Parts Unknown, showing New England, Virginia, Carolina, Florida, Mississippi, and California as a peninsula, Mexico additionally labeled N. Spain, and South America as Amazone America, in fishskin-covered case with cartouche A Correct Globe with the New Constellations of Dr. Halley &c. and two sets of twelve delicately colored gores, and two polar calottes, representing the upper and lower celestial hemispheres, with Ecliptic divided by the days of the Zodiacal calendar, and the Constellations represented as mythical beasts and figures, (terrestrial with approx. 3/8 inch missing section at North Pole, some hairline splits and overall darkening, celestial with old split at one hinge). Literature: Elly Dekker, (1999), Globes at Greenwich. Dekker identifies this anonymous pocket globe as the work of Herman Moll (1678 - 1732) of 1719.
