Beschreibung:

Jaguar entrusted development of the recently introduced XJ40’s new high-performance variant to JaguarSport, an enterprise started in conjunction with Tom Walkinshaw, who was running Jaguar’s competitions programme at the time. First seen in 3.6-litre form in 1988, the XJR incorporated stiffened suspension, 16” Speedline wheels and revised steering, the result being a more responsive car with greatly improved handling and roadholding. Externally the XJR was readily distinguishable from the standard offering by virtue of its colour-matched body kit, four-headlamp front end and boot-lid spoiler. When the new 4.0-litre AJ6 24-valve six became available in September 1989, the version fitted to the XJR came with increased horsepower (up from 235 to 251bhp) though the fitting of a catalyst in 1990 clawed back a few of the extra horses. There was a choice of manual or automatic transmissions and the 4.0-litre XJR came with a limited-slip differential as standard. Along with the rest of the range, the XJR benefited from the greatly improved dashboard and control layout adopted for 1990 onwards. This example has the four-speed ‘dual-mode’ automatic transmission and factory-fitted steel sunroof. Finished in grey with beige leather interior, the vehicle is offered with substantial service history (some main agent), road fund licence to December 2005, MoT to October 2006 and Swansea V5 registration document.
