At the Paris Salon of 1984, Ferrari presented the successor to the legendary BB512 after nearly ten years of production. Called Testarossa, referring to the legendary Le Mans winning car, it is again the work of Pininfarina. The Testarossa is equipped with a 12-cylinder boxer engine inaugurated in 1972 on the 365 GT4BB. The capacity is increased to 4942cc and power increased to 390hp at 6300rpm, at the time of its release, Autocar magazine found the Testarossa capable of 181mph and 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds. The functionality of its Pininfarina styled bodywork was disguised by a wealth of flamboyant and futuristic detailing. Developed with the aid of a wind tunnel, it combined a low drag coefficient with impressive negative lift characteristics. The first twelve-cylinder Ferrari to be marketed in America for a decade, the new flagship was of vital importance to Maranello. Although it was built around a similar tubular steel matrix, it retained the same mid-engined layout as its Berlinetta Boxer forebears. The Testarossa was more than just a simple evolution, its use of galvanised steel for the doors, roof and bulkheads promised greater longevity while a longer wheelbase, wider track and revised all-round double-wishbone coil-over suspension promoted better handling. As well as greater interior space, drivers also benefited from an adjustable steering column, re-profiled seats and air conditioning. This beautifully presented in Giallo Fly with cream leather interior and Gastoro carpets was ordered by Nigel Mansell Sports Cars in 1988 to be sold to Mr. J. Manning upon completion in 1990, this information can all be found in copies of the original order form which also details the optional headlining, rear window surround and dashboard in leather. Of the 438 UK righthand drive supplied Testarossas, only eight were sold in Giallo Fly, two of which were exported to Singapore and Australia and this particular Ferrari, chassis number 85027, is the only righthand drive Giallo Fly car to be supplied in cream leather. Having been cared for by DK Engineering since 2011 and having a comprehensive stamped service history dating back to purchase in 1990 this Testarossa is in fabulous condition throughout having covered just over 1,000 miles in the past five years and kept part of a fabulous private collection.
