Replacements for the 6.9-litre 450SEL, the re-styled newcomers used the 4,973cc overhead-camshaft V8 already seen in the 450SLC coupé. In saloon trim the all-alloy, fuel-injected motor produced 240bhp and was coupled to an all-new, four-speed automatic gearbox. Both the SE and SEL (long wheelbase) models could accelerate to 60mph in around 7 seconds and reach 140mph, a level of performance similar to the larger-engined but heavier 450SEL’s and superior to that of many out-and-out sports cars. The vendor purchased this right-hand drive 500SEL über-saloon in July 2002. The car has been maintained by a Mercedes-Benz specialist, with recent new tyres, traction control and ABS sensors, brake pads and a full service including oil and fuel filters. Finished in blue metallic with cream leather interior and offered with assorted expired MoTs, sundry invoices, MoT to September 2005 and Swansea V5.
