Créée en 1971 par l'ingénieur Bob Jankel, la société Panther West Winds Limited s'est fait connaître en produisant des voitures de sport de style "rétro", fabriquées artisanalement dans un souci de qualité et de luxe, en utilisant des composants modernes. Le premier modèle vendu en grand nombre — la Lima — apparaît en 1976. Auparavant, la formule mêlant techniques et performances modernes avec un style ancien a pris forme avec la J72, première Panther de production, qui doit son inspiration à la Jaguar SS100. Sa qualité de construction est alors telle qu'elle remporte la médaille d'argent de la carrosserie au Salon de Londres 1973, devant des marques aussi prestigieuses que Rolls-Royce. Basée sur la Vauxhall Magnum et commercialisée par le réseau Vauxhall, la Lima comporte une plateforme, des trains roulants et un quatre cylindres 2,3 litres de Magnum, élégamment habillés d'une carrosserie roadster en fibre de verre. Les 108 ch du vigoureux quatre cylindres de Luton permettent à la voiture d'atteindre 100 km/h en dix secondes environ et de rouler à 160 km/h en pointe. Une version améliorée, avec châssis tubulaire, est introduite en 1979 et se poursuit jusqu'en 1981, réapparaissant ultérieurement sous le nom de Kallista, à moteur Ford, après l'acquisition de Panther par Jindo Industries, en Corée. Cet exemplaire conduite à droite fait partie des 897 Lima à moteur Vauxhall, et a été vendu neuf au Royaume Uni. Il y est resté jusqu'à ce que, il y a quelques années, il trouve une nouvelle destination en Belgique. De couleur bleue/grise avec intérieur noir, la voiture est équipée d'un échappement inox et comporte son document d'immatriculation "UK Swansea V5". The firm’s first volume-selling car - the Lima - appeared in 1976, but before then the formula combining modern engineering and performance with bygone-era styling had been established by the J72, Panther’s first production model, which owed its inspiration to the SS100 Jaguar. Such was the superb quality of its construction that the J72 won the Silver Medal for coachwork at the 1973 London Motor Show, beating the likes of Rolls-Royce. Based on the Vauxhall Magnum and sold through the Vauxhall dealer network, the Lima used the Magnum's floorpan, running gear and four-cylinder 2.3-litre engine, around which was wrapped elegant roadster bodywork constructed in glassfibre. With 108bhp available from the lusty Luton four, the Lima could reach 60mph in under 10 seconds and nudge 100mph flat out. An improved version with a tubular spaceframe chassis was introduced in 1979 and the model lasted until 1981, subsequently reappearing as the Ford-powered Kallista after Panther's take-over by Jindo Industries of Korea. One of 897 Vauxhall-powered Limas built, this right-hand drive example was sold new in the UK and remained there until a few years ago when it found a new home in Belgium. Finished in blue/grey with black vinyl interior, the car boasts a stainless steel exhaust system and is offered with UK Swansea V5 registration document.
