It was initially designed and shown to the public as a grand tourer in two-seater coupé form and as convertible, on its release, Enzo Ferrari called it, "The most beautiful car ever made". The model was made in three distinct versions which are now generally referred to as 'Series I', 'Series II' and 'Series III'. The 3.8 litre engine was increased to 4.2 litres in October 1964 with a new 5.3 Litre, 12-cylinder Jaguar V12 engine then introduced with up rated brakes and power steering as standard for the series III. The short wheelbase fixedhead coupé body style was discontinued and the V12 was available only as a convertible and 2+2 coupé. The convertible used the longer-wheelbase 2+2 floorplan. By far the most comfortable and most accomplished of the range, these Series III's were purpose built for long distances and certainly looked the part as well. Built on 25 th May 1972 and dispatched to dealer Page Motors of Epsom, Surrey, this manual V12 roadster was first registered on 26 th September to R.F Viola and retains its original Surrey registration mark. The car has stayed in the local area ever since and passed to its second keeper on 25 th September 1983 and was acquired by the vendor some 20 years ago on 23 rd May 1997. The history file supplied with the car contains a Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirming the car retains its matching numbers engine and was originally white with a blue interior. During 1982-1983, the car underwent restoration work by a professional company for the original owner when the exterior colour was changed to red and the internal trim to black. The owner informs us the car is in very good condition both mechanically and aesthetically. He has kept the car garaged with heating during winter months throughout his ownership. Some of the work undertaken over the cars lifetime include overhaul of the front and rear suspension (adjustable rear shock absorbers fitted), fuel pump, uprated starter motor, alternator, ignition amplifier kit, header tank and re-cored radiator, thermostat, cooling fans and hoses, water pump, overhaul handbrake mechanism, new pads and installation of access panel in boot to permit easy future maintenance and replacement of pads. More recently the two front leather seats and headrests have been refurbished, a new mohair hood and cover fitted and uprated headlamps. During the last 35 years this Jaguar has only covered approximately 28,000 miles. The car comes with substantial historical documentation dating back to 1982 and includes 29 MoT test certificates and 24 old tax discs to support the current mileage of 86,327, as shown on the current MoT test certificate with no advisories. Included in the documentation is photographic evidence of the restoration of the body work. The engine also underwent a major overhaul in 1990 at 68,798 miles and bills to support the work undertaken are included. This E-Type comes with the original handbook, lubrication and wiring charts. A wonderful example of this classically dynamic design, it is still a head turner today.
