1972 FERRARI 246 GT DINO Registration No. YUO 226K Chassis No. 03050 Engine No. 03050 Rosso Chiaro with black leather interior Engine: V-6, mid-engine, double overhead camshafts, cast iron block and light alloy heads, 2,418cc, 178bhp at 7,000rpm; Gearbox: five-speed manual; Suspension: front and rear independent with unequal length A arms, coil springs, tubular shock absorbers; Brakes: four wheel disc. Right hand drive. The forerunner to the hugely popular Ferrari 246 GT and GTS was the 206 S Speciale, a styling exercise that Pininfarina exhibited at the 1965 Paris Motor Show. This car evolved into reality when a working prototype appeared at the Turin Motor Show in 1966, and by 1969 the first 246 GT Dino was shown. The V-6, four overhead camshafts engine was mounted transversely behind the driver and in front of the rear axle, while the gearbox was in unit with the differential and sump. The Pininfarina styled body was an instant success and the fact that the car handled well ensured it sold well. The car was very user friendly and, with a maximum 195bhp available, very sporting in the Ferrari mould. There were a few detail changes during the production run such as center-lock wheels changing to five bolt types and then a GTS version with removable roof panel. Just under 2,500 GTs were built between 1969 and '74 and they have always remained popular sports cars with classic car enthusiasts. The car we offer for sale was registered new in the U.K. on 10th February 1972, it is understood to have had 5 keepers since then and came into the present ownership in 1991. Shortly before acquisition, the Ferrari had been the subject of a six month refurbishment of bodywork and mechanics at the hands of British agents, Maranello Concessionaires. Invoices are on file for this work, which totalled more than £18,000, at a time when labour was a fraction of today's costs. Over the last fourteen years the car has seen regular though limited use and has always proven reliable, during which time it has been maintained by Newlands Motors of Forest Row, East Sussex. An extremely presentable example of this iconic model, it is currently road taxed and ready to use.
