1970 Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL (3.5 litre) *WITHDRAWN* Lot Number241 RegistrationANM 696H Chassis Number10905612001764 Odometer reading46,365 km Estimate£17,000 - £25,000 Print details Send this to a friend 5 more images Rare 3.5 litre, long wheelbase model Air suspension DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL, THIS LOT HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN FROM THE AUCTION This car can be viewed in person from 14th to 18th July 2020 at our the auction site, Windsorview Lakes, Datchet, SL3 9HY The Mercedes-Benz W108 and W109 were luxury cars produced from 1965 through to 1973 in North America only. The line was an update of the predecessor W111 and W112 fintail saloon. The 300 SEL made grand headlines with the 'Q car', the 6.3 litre range was the top example and, behind it in the model line-up with the luxuries and a less heavy yet still very powerful 3.5 litre engine, was the SEL which was, at the time, priced ahead of the competing Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. Offered with air suspension, all electric windows and providing Mercedes-Benz legendary reliability, these cars were sought after by Europe's elite and swiftly became a favourite in the United States. Although many critics described the car as a 'fintail without the fintails', the vehicle was an amazing success. Mostly, due its simple and understated contours, it is not remembered for its looks though some argue that it was thanks to the design that the car has such a timeless charm but instead it was very well known for its reliability and durability, proof again of excellent German engineering. This lovely example is presented in navy blue with complementary blue leather interior. Its smooth and rare 3.5 litre, V8 is mated to an automatic gearbox and with air suspension, this model is one of the most desirable for the discerning collector. These luxury saloons were the choice of Embassies and Royalty around the world, they were a delight to drive, performing well on those long journeys which ate up the miles effortlessly and in comfort. This particular car has covered a mere 46,365km and we are informed has been serviced and setup correctly by a renowned Mercedes-Benz specialist thus performs beautifully. The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to Government guidelines throughout viewing and auction day.
