1968 Ford Lotus Cortina Mk. II Lot Number188 RegistrationTPE 366F Chassis NumberBA91HB55920 Engine NumberLF108291BA Odometer reading66,512 miles Estimate£19,000 - £24,000 ResultSold - £20,376 Print details Send this to a friend 5 more images This car can be viewed in person from 14th to 18th July 2020 at our the auction site, Windsorview Lakes, Datchet, SL3 9HY The second incarnation of the Cortina was designed by Roy Haynes and was launched on 18th October 1966. One of the best loved versions of that Cortina appeared in 1967, the 1600E, which was introduced at the Paris Motor Show in October of that year. The mechanical specification included an 88bhp, 1600cc Cortina GT engine which achieved a fuel consumption of 25 miles per gallon. Following on from the enormous success of the Lotus Cortina Mk. I, Ford introduced the Cortina Lotus Mk. II in 1967 with the famous Lotus twin-cam engine now giving 109bhp. Externally, the Mk. II had a black front grille, 5.5J x 13 steel wheels and Lotus badges on both rear wings. Ford renamed the Lotus version the Cortina Lotus, due to its manufacture at Ford's Dagenham plant in Essex. This came about through their move from Cheshunt to Hethel in 1966. Originally registered in the UK on 25th January 1968, this Lotus Cortina has had four previous keepers from new. When the current vendor purchased the car he had it inspected by the Lotus Cortina Register who confirmed the authenticity. The interior of this Mk. II Cortina is simple yet very efficient with the four dials set in the centre of the dashboard being easy to read, and the remote gear lever and centre armrest making this a comfortable and enjoyable drive. The Lotus twin cam engine runs very well, sounds great and offers brisk performance. The history folder confirms this has been a well looked after example and even contains the original Ford Lotus Cortina handbook, it is thought the mileage of 66,512 is correct but not warranted. Finished in Ermine White with the traditional green stripe and a green Everflex, this Mk. II is fitted with a full length Webasto style sunroof. Supplied with a V5C registration document, this is a highly useable iconic classic car of the period and one that has evocative memories to men of a certain age. The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to Government guidelines throughout viewing and auction day.
