Triumph announced the Vitesse in 1962, originally as a six-cylinder, 1,600cc compact saloon, significantly upgrading the Michelotti-styled Herald alongside which it was built. In 1968 the 2-litre Mark II was announced, with enhanced performance, a car capable of almost 100mph.
