Description Formed as ‘Tecnokart’ by brothers Luciano and Gianfranco Pederzani in 1962, the Italian firm built karts at first before diversifying into larger types of open-wheel racing cars and eventually Formula 1. Tecno arrived on the international stage in 1966 as a manufacturer of Formula 3 cars, which were characterised by a short wheelbase and forward driving position. Within a couple of years the Tecno was the car to beat in Formula 3, achieving 32 victories out of 65 major international races in 1968, while in 1969 Ronnie Peterson, driving a Novamotor-engined example, won 14 races including the prestigious support race at the Monaco Grand Prix. Chassis 00204 was built in mid/late 1966 and was initially driven by the works driver, Carlo Facetti. The car first appeared at Mugello in July, finishing fourth and at Monza with Pino Babbini, Giancarlo Baghetti and Facetti – who clinched third in September 1966, all documented in the cars file. Three cars, including 00204 were then taken to Argentina in 1967 for the Temporada series. The works drivers included Facetti and Alfredo Simoni, to be joined later in the series by Clay Regazzoni and then by Boley Pittard. As far as we know, the car last ran in 1967 and was mothballed, coming to the UK in 2003 and largely left unrestored – including most of the original bodywork which is sold with the car. Photos are available in the cars file. The car had a ‘no-expense-spared’ ground up rebuild by formula Junior and Formula 3 experts Mark Witherspoon, Colin Denyer and Robin Lackford. Chassis 00204 is fitted with a it’s original specification engine- rebuilt by Richardson and is mated to a Mark Bailey gearbox; Peter Denty suspension (and Koni dampers); and is presented in a mechanically excellent condition. During the overhaul the car was fitted with Bob Green brakes; a Matt Simpson stainless steel exhaust; all new wiring; cables; oil pipes; plumbing; joints; tyres; discs; rollbar; belts; fuel tank; oil cooler; – the list goes on. The equally stunning Ferrari inspired coachwork has been beautifully re-mastered by Tom Lailley de Ville, the car is finished in its original livery in excellent condition. Offered with current HTP papers and with a wonderful history file containing a vast amount of period racing shots, and with the correct FEV fire system and safety belts in date, this wonderful racecar with proven and well known history is a very cheap entry into the historic racing scene.
