1966 Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint Lot Number 118 Registration KOY912D Chassis Number 854543 Engine Number 0060800266 Odometer reading 72,900 miles Estimate £18,000 - £24,000 Result Sold - £20,720 Print details Send this to a friend The 2600 (series 106) was Alfa Romeo´s six-cylinder flagship and was produced from 1961 to 1968. It has become historically significant as the last Alfa Romeo to have been fitted with an inline, six-cylinder engine having twin overhead camshafts. This had been the traditional Alfa Romeo engine configuration since the 1920's but gave way to four-cylinder engines as the factory oriented its production towards more economical mass-produced car models after the Second World War. The 2600 was introduced at the 1962 Geneva Motor Show and is a large grand touring coupé which could seat four adults in comfort over long journeys at high speeds. In that mode of operation, oriented more towards fast touring than sporting driving, the agility and handling balance of the smaller Alfa's mattered less, while the stability and smoother ride of the larger car, together with the wide power and torque band of the six-cylinder engine, came into their own. Added to the greater space and comfort, those virtues made a convincing case for the 2600 Sprint. This fantastic Alfa was first registered on 23rd June 1966 and has been with its current owners since 2000; the HPI report shows it has had only one previous owner. It has been maintained during this period by Rusper/Gatwick Alfa Romeo and comes with a comprehensive service and history file. The owner confirms the body work is in excellent condition following a full bare metal re-spray in 2003; the mechanics are all sound including a recently fitted exhaust system. The car comes with an MoT test certificate valid for 12 months and has recently had a service in June 2017. Finished in classic red with upholstered cream leather seats (carried out in the last five years) the rest of the interior is found in original condition. With some 164bhp on tap, capable of 125mph and with a five-speed fully synchromesh gearbox, this car will keep up with modern traffic conditions with its occupants arriving in style. The car looks stunning and creates a great deal of interest when shown. 2600 are now becoming rare and are difficult to find in this condition.
