1964 SHELBY 289 COBRA SPORTS ROADSTER Chassis No. CSX2314 Black with black interior accompanied by a hardtop Engine; V-8, 4,727cc, 280bhp at 5,400rpm. Transmission with four speed gearbox. Suspension; independent, front and rear. Left hand drive. Late in 1961 Carroll Shelby approached A.C. Cars of England with a plan to build a limited production sports car. A.C. Cars would provide its veteran Ace chassis, a proven sports car, Ford would supply the V-8 power plant, and Shelby would assemble the cars. Within a year, the first one hundred cars had been assembled in Shelby's Venice, California, workshop. The initial seventy-five cars had a 260 cubic inch Ford engine, and all subsequent small blocks received the more powerful 289 cubic inch power plants. Dubbed 'The Cobra' by Shelby himself, these cars went on to earn a legendary status as excellent road and track performers. The classic styling coupled with the powerful, reliable engines contribute to the Cobra's reputation as one of the greatest American sports cars. Clearly, CSX 2314 is a Cobra for the serious and well informed collector. Its ownership history is well documented, and it is comes complete with a hard top, tool kit, radio, and grease gun. In 1991, CSX 2314 benefitted from a top quality restoration. Original correspondence between the first two owners and Shelby American enhances the documentation which accompanies the car. In addition, four original wire wheels and four Goodyear Blue Streak tires are included. The cost of duplicating the car and its auxillary components would far exceed our estimate.
