Beschreibung:

1958 ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER CLOUD I SALOON Chassis No. LSGE 184 Metallic dark brown over sand with tan leather interior Engine: six cylinder, overhead inlet valve, side exhaust, 4,887cc approximately 175bhp at 4,500rpm; Gearbox: four speed automatic; Suspension: front, independent coil, rear, semi-elliptic leaf springs; Brakes: four wheel drum. Left hand drive. The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I was introduced in April 1955 as a replacement for the Silver Dawn and was the final model using the cast iron monobloc straight six engine which traces its parentage back to the 20hp. The engine was further bored out to increase the capacity to 4,887cc and in its final form with 8:1 compression ratio developed over 170bhp. The Silver Cloud was available with standard four door bodywork, although a number of chassis did receive specialized coachbuilders' designs. The standard bodywork had single headlights and as a way to personalize these cars many were endowed with two-tone color schemes. The performance was a genuine 100mph with customary lavish trim and ultimate silence. The chassis and suspension were evolutionary developments from the Silver Wraith, the brakes were now power assisted and from 1956 power steering became an option. The interior was sumptuous with leather seats and the dashboard and door trim were veneered. There were picnic tables in the back and vanity mirrors set in the rear quarter panels. This fine example was originally purchased by Mrs. G. Kulikundis of 502 Park Avenue, New York, interestingly this address is now the North American head office and auction room for Christie's. The car was originally two-tone, black over grey and was ordered with power steering, air conditioning and a speedometer in kilometers. At some stage the car was shipped to Switzerland from where the renowned Long Island collector, Philip Wichard, acquired it. The previous Swiss owner stated that this was a genuine low mileage vehicle (in April 1995 the recorded mileage was 54,000). Despite the low mileage this owner had a Rolls-Royce dealer completely restore the vehicle with a nut and bolt mechanical rebuild. On its return to the U.S., Mr. Wichard finished the restoration by repainting the car, replacing the chromework and fitting new upholstery. Christie's sold this vehicle at their famous auction on behalf of Mr. Wichard in April 1995. The new owner decided to repaint the car again and also dyed the upholstery. The wood work is extremely fine. The car also comes fitted with Marchal headlamps. Since our sale in 1995, the car has only covered a further 700 miles and the current mileage of this superb car reads 54,710.
