Beschreibung:

1956 JENSEN 541 SPORTS SALOON Registration No. URT 451 Chassis No. 541 1055803 Engine No. ID - 10709MJE Original faded Tampico Beige with red interior Engine: six cylinder, OHV, 3,993cc, approx 125bhp; Gearbox: four speed manual with overdrive; Brakes: servo assisted four wheel drum; Suspension: front, independent, rear, leaf spring live axle. Right hand drive. The Jenson firm of West Bromwich endorsed the traditional view that a large unstressed engine in a streamlined lightweight body was a good recipe for fast touring. This was one of the world's first cars with glass fibre bodywork and only 226 were built between 1953 and shortly after the arrival of the 541 R in 1957. The Austin A125 engine with triple SU carburettors provided extremely 'long-legged' performance - for example 80mph in overdrive top at under an economical 3,000rpm and the acceleration to out-run virtually anything on the road, allied to a top speed of around 120mph. This extremely original example is believed to have had one owner (Major General Hopkinson) until purchased by its present owner in 1988. It comes with extensive service history from 1961 and has covered 100,000 miles since new. Oil pressure is good and the car runs and drives satisfactorily. It has recently been fitted with new tyres, shock absorbers and exhaust, but requires attention to its original interior and exterior paintwork. However, it is perfectly usable and comes with an MoT certificate until August 1995. Also included is an instruction book whilst any engine and gearbox spares that may be required in the future may be obtained from the vendor by seperate negotiation. URT 451 has been used in recent years on several Continental trips and has created considerable interest on account of its originality and style both at Classic Nurburgring and Spa. It has also 'starred' in the Merchant Ivory film "The Remains of the Day" with Anthony Hopkins.
