1955 Ted Williams/Boston Red Sox Wool #9 Game Worn Jersey, 1956 Johnny Schmitz/Boston Red Sox Game Worn Pants, with a Cap and Leggings, the gray flannel road jersey with stitched blue felt letters "BOSTON" across the front and number "9" on the verso. Seven gray buttons close the front. The front tail with stitched supplier label "Tim McAuliffe Inc., Boston, Mass," and stitched in navy blue thread "55," (year), "46 2in" (size/alteration), and "9" (player number). The gray flannel road pants with stitched supplier label "Tim McAuliffe Inc, Boston, Mass." and stitched in black thread "21," "56," and "36 30 ins," inside the waistband. The 1950s blue wool game worn cap with McAuliffe tag cut out and straight visor. A pair of navy blue, red, and white wool leggings. (jersey with some light staining at collar, a vertical light stain from right shoulder and at mid-placket, pants with minor staining, hat with band deterioration, leggings with one small hole and stirrup edge wear). Provenance: Donated in the fall of 1964 to be auctioned off by the Scituate Etrusco Association, hosted by Scituate contractor, prominent Jimmy Fund contributor, and Red Sox fan Allen Wheeler. The highest bid on the uniform that evening was $50, so the host presented it as a gift, to the present owner. A letter from the owner detailing this history accompanies the lot.
