Post-War Vincent production recommenced in 1946, initially with the 1,000cc Series B twin-cylinder Rapide and this was joined by two single cylinder offerings in 1948, the Series B Meteor and the Series C Comet. The Comet essentially shared the same cycle parts as the fabulous V-twins and apart from the Burman gearbox and the ‘missing’ cylinder it was similar in most respects to the Rapide. From the outset suspension was by Girdraulic front forks with hydraulic dampers at front and rear. Although the Meteor was short-lived the Comet remained in production until 1954, its overall refinement, unparalleled comfort and 90mph performance endearing it to owners who could afford a machine of such quality manufacture. Although living slightly in the shadow of the powerful twins, the Comet ranked highly in its peer group. This machine, first registered on 21st October 1951, carries supplier’s plate indicating supply by St. Andrew’s Motors of Gallowgate, Newcastle, and although its full history is not recorded it has been in the present ownership for some seven years, used occasionally and an undoubted favourite from the owner’s collection of twenty or more machines. The bike is registered on a Swansea V5C document, licensed to July 2009 with MoT to August 2009. The headstock frame number and engine number have been checked and conform with Vincent numbering patterns.
