Buick revived a brand name from General Motor's formative years - Marquette - for a new companion marque in 1930. Manufactured and marketed by Buick, the Marquette was a smaller car and relied on a six-cylinder sidevalve engine (displacing 3.5 litres) rather than the overhead-valve unit favoured by its parent. Production for the 1930 model year commenced on 1st June 1929, yet despite favourable press reaction and an excellent performance, the Marquette's arrival just ahead of the Wall Street Crash hindered sales and the model was dropped at the end of its debut season after 35,007 had been built. This right-hand drive example of one of America's rarest cars of the 1930s was delivered new to South Africa and has taken part in many famous rally runs, commemorative badges from these events adorning the front bumper. The vehicle was completely restored between 1995 and 2000 and has covered approximately 1,500 miles since completion, most of these on an historic rally through Austria and the Czech republic. The original carburettor and dynamo, both replaced during the rebuild, are included in the sale. Finished in maroon with black leather interior, the car is presented in excellent condition and offered with current road fund licence, MoT to April 2005 and Swansea V5 registration document.
