Beschreibung:

Alongside F.N. and Sarolea, Gillet was one of the three main motorcycle companies in Belgium and produced pre-WW2 four-stroke machines of very high quality, being amongst the pioneers of unit construction of engine and gearbox, as on this example. An overhead-valve, matching-number, unit-construction ‘Competition’ model, with the valve gear on the nearside and Druid forks, in common with many European designs, it was at the peak of sports / racing machines of the period. Bought for racing by a well-known German racer and journalist, the late Dr. Helmut Krackowitzer and rebuilt to his exacting standards by the notable Vienna restorer Ernesto Rossi, it was then used successfully for some years alongside Dr. Krackowitzer’s similar Sunbeam ‘90’. Since its racing career, the Gillet has been on display at the Ehn museum. In very good cosmetic and mechanical condition, this now rare example offers the opportunity of a return to the track at Moto Legende or of easy conversion to road trim as an unusual sporting ‘500’.
