Beschreibung:

.69 caliber, 44" barrel. Lockplate stamped L. Pomeroy Pittsfield/EP. A fine 1795-1798 contract musket. Musket was produced by Lemuel Pomeroy at the turn of the 19th century. Pomeroy brought the Whitney Forge in Pittsfield, Massachusetts from Jason Mills, who had a US contract for 1797 and 1798 muskets. He assembled these muskets from parts that were already available to him from the Whitney Forge. Then he sold these firearms commercially. (See Moeller, 1993: 245-246.) Condition: Entire metal surfaces covered with a rich, deep brown oxidation. Wood is in excellent condition and is untouched and never cleaned. The wood is covered with traces of darkened colors from oil applications. Wood has a small erosion spot behind flint hammer. All original parts, original bayonet and original flint. Frizzen spring may be a period replacement. A very interesting and early flint musket in attic mint condition. A fine example of an early assembled musket.
