Italian School, 17th Century Joseph & Potiphar's Wife Unsigned, inscribed "27" l.l. Ink on antique laid paper, sight size 6 3/8 x 7 1/2 in. (16.0 x 19.0 cm),framed. Condition: Minor areas of corrosion resulting from iron gall ink, rippling, not examined out of frame. Provenance: A Connecticut estate. N.B. Iron gall ink was very popular with artists as a drawing ink, used with quill, pen, or brush. Because of its indelibility, it was the ink of choice for documentation from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.
