After starting out as a schoolmaster at Town Malling, Charles Box became cricket editor of the Times : 'during his latter years [he] held himself somewhat aloof, preferring to sit alone in the grand-stand, apart from his fellow journalists. In his home at Camberwell, however, he was a most hospitable host .... His best known book is The English Game of Cricket , published in 1877' (F.S.
