Provenance : Charles Box (pencil inscription 'From the Library of Charles Box July '86' in Ashley-Cooper's hand to flyleaf of first edition) -- F.S. Ashley-Cooper (bookplate and inscription) -- Julien Cahn. After starting out as a schoolmaster at Town Malling, Charles Box became cricket editor of the Times : 'during his latter years [he] held himself somewhat aloof, preferring to sit alone in the grand-stand, apart from his fellow journalists. In his home at Camberwell, however, he was a most hospitable host .... His best known book is The English Game of Cricket , published in 1877' (F.S. Ashley-Cooper, Cricket Highways and Byways , 1927, p. 233). FULL SET of the Companions . Padwick 1068.
