The Ristigouche and its Salmon Fishing. With a Chapter on Angling Literature. Edinburgh: David Douglas, 1888. xvi, 275, [1] + [6] ad pp. Illustrated with an aquatint frontispiece and pictorial title-page (partly printed in red) after G. Reid by Annan and Swan; 16 full–page etchings and other smaller plates on Japan paper, with tissue-guards; 63 etched or engraved head and tail pieces; initials, vignettes and other ornaments throughout; a double-page lithographed map by J. Bartholomew; engraved advertisements in the back. Six etchings are by Canadian artist Henry Sandham other artists include Stephen Parrish (the father of Maxfield Parrish , C.A. Platt, Anna Lea Merritt Charles Oliver Murray, and George W. Aikman. Folio. Original full green cloth with gilt stamped osprey and salmon vignette on the front cover, spine lettered in gilt, green leaf-patterned endpapers; custom quarter morocco clamshell case. Some light spotting at ends and to fore-edge and scattered few foxmarks internally, front hinge cracked at frontispiece, cloth a little rubbed and faded to brown at spine and edges, a very handsome, square copy. First edition, limited edition, number 9 of 105 copies, 50 of which were for private presentation, initialed by the publisher with "W.D." in pencil. The rarest and most beautiful book on salmon fishing. This copy with a newspaper clipping laid in to the effect that the first copy ever put up for auction in the United States sold for $135 in 1902.
