Aquatint frontispiece, aquatint title printed in red and black, both by Annan and Swan after George Reid double-page lithographed map by J. Bartholomew, 16 etched and drypoint plates printed on Japan paper, 63 etched, aquatint and wood-engraved head-pieces, tail-pieces, pictorial initials and vignettes, by and after Mrs. A. L. Merritt, C. O. Murray, S. Parris, H. Sandham and others, lettered tissue guards, 3 leaves publisher's ads at end with etched specimens. (Some faint spotting throughout.) Original coarse green cloth gilt, uncut (extremities rubbed). Provenance : Henry M. Sage, father of the author (bookplate; presentation inscription); by descent in the family to the present owner. LIMITED EDITION, number 88 of 105 copies. PRESENTATION COPY FROM THE AUTHOR TO HIS FATHER on the front flyleaf: "Henry M. Sage from D. Sage Nov 1896." Henry M. Sage was a Trustee of Cornell University and was elected President of the Board in 1875. Sage House is now the home of Cornell University Press. At Henry Sage's direction, the University resisted selling its Wisconson land grants in the aftermath of the Panic of 1873, and thereby earned millions of dollars for the university's endowment. Gee, p.100 ("ONE OF THE GREAT BOOKS ON SALMON FISHING"). SCARCE. [ With: ] SAGE, Dean. Printed galley proof of "The Atlantic Salmon," heavily annotated in ink.
