Murphy, 1873-4) nearly extremely fine £400-500 Footnote Joseph William Carter Neynoe Murphy was born in Dublin on 7 December 1837. He was appointed a Staff Assistant Surgeon on 1 March 1859 and later served with the 2/12th Foot, 75th Foot and Royal Engineers. He was promoted to Surgeon in March 1859 and attained the rank of Surgeon-Major in April 1874. After service in the Ashantee War he was placed on Half Pay in March 1876 and died on 19 June 1878.
